SOCIAL CONCERNS ANNOUNCEMENTS

Social Concerns: Many Ways to Help

Haiti Earthquake Relief. Haiti EarthquakeHere is information as to how you can help the people of Haiti, in their time of need. 100% of monies received by the ELCA go directly to help. That's a terrific percentage. You can contribute directly to the ELCA Disaster Response Fund or you can make checks out to "St. Luke" and we will forward your money to Lutheran Disaster Response Fund. Our help is needed. Please give.

Souper Bowl of Caring. Angels or Saints? Root for your team this month when the Souper Bowl of Caring Sunday returns. St. Luke members whose surnames begin with A-L (the Angels) will compete with members with M-Z names (the Saints) to raise money for the soup kitchen at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Midtown. Dig deep to help the hungry — and make your team a winner — when we collect cash donations after the Sunday services on Jan. 31 and Feb. 7.

Social Concerns Committee Meeting. Interested in joining the Social Concerns Committee? Whether you are a new or returning member, please plan to join us Sunday, Feb. 14, after the worship service to discuss activities for the coming months. Questions? Contact Social Concerns Committee Chair Tim Young: timothy.abram.young@gmail.com.

Metro Atlanta Hunger Walk. Plan to walk with the St. Luke’s team during the annual Hunger Walk/Run, Sunday, March 14. Proceeds benefit Lutheran Services of Georgia and other organizations serving our community..

Help Fill the Food Pantry. BCM Food PantryHelp us fill the food pantry shelves! Our quarterly goal is to collect 75 bags or cash equivalent by March 31. Remember to bring along a bag (or 2 or 3) of nonperishable groceries to share with BCM. Check out the list of needed items on the bulletin board and deposit your bags in the fellowship hall. Or drop a check in the collection plate, with “BCM food drive” in the memo line. Questions? Contact Jane at jvonse@comcast.net. All donations benefit Buckhead Christian Ministry’s Food Bank.

Good Gifts. ELCA Good GiftsConsider honoring someone special with a donation through the ELCA Good Gifts program (elca.org/goodgifts) - gifts that equip, nourish, nurture, heal, inspire, respond or partner. Or consider a Heifer International Gift Card (heifer.org). Heifer International helps families around the world receive training and animal gifts to become self-reliant!

Mainali Family Update. Our refugee family from Bhutan, the Mainalis, are continuing to adjust to life in America. St. Luke remains in close touch with Lutheran Social Services of Georgia to help settle the family, which includes Medani (father), Chhali (mother), Chandra (son, 20) and Moni (son, 16). They are beginning to find jobs but could use some support and help with the basics. Please contact Tim Young (timothy.abram.young@gmail.com) if you can help.

Brewster's Ice Cream Coupon Books. The Social Concerns Committee continues to offer Bruster's Ice Cream coupon booklets for $10 each. Among other goodies, each one features multiple buy-one-get-one-free coupons good even for waffle cones! They are a wonderful bargain and all proceeds benefit Social Concerns projects. Please see either Arlene Tuschl ( tuschla1@gmail.com ), David Wilson or Tim Young to purchase one.
