Join us for St. Luke's very own taste of Mardi Gras just a week before Ash Wednesday. We'll be serving Red beans and rice, King cake, and more for our Cajun Fellowship Dinner on Wednesday, February 10th from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. Please call ahead or sign the sheet near the Kitchen so we can plan for the meal.

We will have two Ash Wednesday services on February 17: one at 11:30am and a second at 7:30pm. Both will include the imposition of ashes for those who desire it as well as the Sacrament of Holy Communion.

As is our tradition, we will have soup and bread suppers each Wednesday evening before our Lenten Worship. Supper will begin at 6:00 pm and Lenten Worship will follow at 7:00 pm.

The Annual St Luke Chili Cook-Off will be Saturday, February 27th from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. We'll be at the home of David and Joe. Bring a pot of your favorite Chili for our contest, to be judged in three catagories: Hottest, Most Unusual and Best Overall. If the contest is too hot for you, please bring a dessert or salad to share with the group. A sign-up sheet is posted near the Kitchen. Please indicate what you'll be bringing.

Our 2009 Pictorial Congregational Directories have arrived and they look great! Be sure to pick up your copy on Sunday or the next time you are here.

Our Sunday School Class for our younger children is back! We have hired a teacher from St Anne's Day School to teach our younger children's Sunday School Class from 10:00-10:45 am. Ellie Klein will be teaching our children ages 3 and up. (Younger children may attend the class if they can handle it.) She will continue to use the "Godly Play" material. We hope this will enable our children to attend Sunday School - and still attend the worship service for a blessing on Holy Communion Sundays.

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL.How Lutherans Interpret the Bible
Beginning on Sunday, January 31, and through Sunday, February 21, we will view a special video series by Rev. Mark A. Powell, Professor at Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio. The series is entitled “How Lutherans Interpret the Bible.” There will be four sessions, as follows:

  • Session 1: The Word of God – January 31
  • Session 2: What Lutherans Say about the Bible – February 7
  • Session 3: Where the Bible comes from – February 14
  • Session 4: Interpreting the Bible in Context – February 21

Please plan to join us in the Fellowship Hall after coffee fellowship.

During the Annual Meeting of the Congregation on Sunday January 17, we adopted the budget and elected the 2010 Nominating Committee: Susan Clark, Karen DeRuyter, Mark Engel, Lindy Freitag, John Howells and Rick Moore.

  • Ushers - We have openings for ushers! All are encouraged to participate. Couples and families can even volunteer together!
  • Lay Readers - This is an opportunity for those who would like to read the Lessons, but who do not wish to act as a Lay Assistant.

Please contact Susan Roff if you are interested in either of these opportunities.

If you are interested in membership, please talk with Pastor Reinertsen. You can join by Letter of Transfer, Affirmation of Faith or Adult Instruction. We would be delighted to welcome you into membership.

The Wednesday Bible Study Group has been meeting with Pastor Reinertsen since October 1978. Each session includes fellowship, dessert and coffee, and reading from the Bible. Currently we are discussing the Gospel according to St. Luke. Meetings occur on most Wednesdays. New members are always welcome. Our next meeting will be February 3rd.

Take a peek at the new website! After several false starts, Penny Randolph (designer), Barb Shaeffer (developer) and council advisors Mark Engel and Allison Bussone are making real progress. If you do peek, be advised that the content is incomplete and preliminary. Please share your ideas and corrections with the team.
